 Howdy, I’m Brad Bohen a.k.a. "The Afton Angler." I live to share my fly fishing passion with other anglers and fishy souls from around the world. The Afton Angler guiding philosophy is simple – I will teach anyone to become a more complete and balanced angler that has the desire to learn.
I base my guide business around three basic principles: time on the water, customer service and more customer service.
I am a teaching guide. If you are a beginner or novice I can help you learn the fundamentals and bring you to the next level. If you have experience but do not get out as often as you wish – I can help dust off the rust. If you are a seasoned and active angler…watch out we can do some serious damage together.
My home is on the bank of the Bois Brule River. I guide for trout and steelhead every chance I get, but what really gets me going are muskie on the fly! I have devoted myself to this crazy facet of the fly fishing sport. If you are keen to capture the 'Fish of 10,000 Casts' on a fly then look me up.
Our fly fishing season up here in Indianhead Country begins in early March for big stream trout and steelhead along the south shore of Lake Superior. The trout and steelhead hold center stage through mid-June then our focus shifts to the warm water rivers and smallmouth bass, pike and of course muskie. In August we start hunting the lakerun fish again as brown trout, salmon and steelhead begin to show themselves. Autumn is a crazy time to be a fly rod angler in Northern Wisconsin…everything seems to be ‘on’. October and November are prime months to chase muskie and our season will run up until ice-up in late November.
Afton Angler specializes in well planned and equipped fly fishing adventures. Walk-in and wade trips are popular for trout and steelhead as are canoe floats. For the ultimate in Wisconsin fly fishing try a full day float in a drift boat for smallmouth bass, pike and muskie…it really does not get any better than this sportsfans.
